Job Title: Adult/Young Adult Services Librarian (Full-Time)
Reports To: Library Manager
Hours: 35 hours per week, including two evenings and some Saturdays
Position Summary
The West Deptford Free Public Library is seeking an energetic and customer service-driven professional who desires to be actively involved with the community. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and community outreach, and will provide engaging programming for our young adult (12-17yrs) and adult patrons.
The West Deptford Free Public Library serves a population of 22,500. The library is a member of LOGIN (Libraries of Gloucester, Salem, and Cumberland Information Network), a consortium, or cooperative group, of twenty-three (23) public, associate, and academic libraries.
Key Responsibilities
- Collection development for all adult and young adult (12-17 yrs) materials.
- Develops and coordinates adult and young adult programs.
- Serves as Person In Charge (PIC).
- Provides reference and reader’s advisory services to the public.
- Develops and implements departmental goals, policies and procedures.
- Teaches digital literacy, including the use of computers, tablets, e-books, and online tools.
- Prepares grant materials in cooperation with other professional staff.
- Manages electronic subscriptions.
- Attends/participates in professional development meetings, workshops, etc.
- Collects, maintains, and reports statistical data as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution or enrollment in an MLS/MLIS program with anticipated graduation within six months.
- New Jersey State Professional Librarian’s Certificate, or the ability to obtain such.
- The ability to read, write, and speak the English language sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
- Must be eligible for permanent employment in the United States with documentation for Form I-9 of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
- The selected candidate must comply with the “NJ First Act.” Candidate must live in New Jersey or move to New Jersey within a year of being hired.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience as a professional librarian working in a public library preferred.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with outreach or community engagement programs for adults and young adults.
- Familiarity with digital resources and willingness to learn emerging technologies.

- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, and library databases.

Work Environment
- Must be available to work two evenings and some Saturdays.
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
